Below is a list of some of our Neighbors who daily support us and the neighborhood at large. Click on the picture to the left for links to Columbus's Cycling Community.
Rain Brothers: Home of the lovable Jonathan Meier, Gordy Smith and Ohio’s own Rain Barrel. These two young talents have been creating alternative water storage and irrigation systems since 2007. They also provided us with half of their shop for our first year of operation.
Franklinton Gardens: Central Ohio's communty garden of 2010! located right in our backyard. Fton Gardens has been growing, giving out and selling Franklinton grown produce since 2007. They offer the cities only 6 day a week neighborhood produce stand and save space for residents to rent out their own gardening beds. Check out their website for opportunities to get involved in their community composting campaign and many growing activities.
St. John’s Episcopal Church: St John’s Episcopal, led by The Dr. Rev. Lee Anne Reat, hosts multiple services for the surrounding neighborhood. The congregants of their Street Church service (every Sunday at 1pm at Broad and Central) have also been recipients of our bike give-away program.
Franklinton Development Association: The FDA is the community development hub of Franklinton and has it hands in or supports every progressive effort in the neighborhood. Besides remodeling historic and abandoned homes, the FDA works hard to make the homes affordable to people who wouldn’t normally be able to buy a home. This program is what allowed us to buy a home in the neighborhood. The FDA also hosts several community events throughout the year including Urban Scrawl.
Lower Lights Health Clinic and Compassionate Ministries: Lower Lights Ministries has been serving the neighborhood of Franklinton since 1991 and has established itself as one of the most prominent social service organizations of the neighborhood. Lower Lights does everything from after school tutoring to housing for ex-felons to health services. In addition, they employ several of our friends who also live in the neighborhood.
Gladden Community House: Gladden Community House was established in 1905 and settled into its current location at the corner of Town St and Hawkes Ave in 1953 making it the oldest and longest running social service organization of Franklinton (as far as we know). Gladden is perhaps best know for it’s after school programs and athletic organizations.
Third Hand Bike Co-op: Columbus' original Bicycle Co-op. They serve the Weinland Park area on the north east side of downtown. Check their website for their latest open shop hours.
Bikes Not Bombs
Sheldon Brown:
Bike Geometry Project: Central Ohio native, and FCW bike Mentor Dave Mann, is determined to collect the geometries of every road bike out there. His sp is an incredible resource for choosing an old frame to build upon. Also check out his cycling page which describes in detail the differences between the road frames of the 70's and 80's.
